Bloating After A Stomach Flu

by Terry H.

What can you do if you experience constipation and bloating after a stomach flu?

After a 2 day bout (Jan. 25 & 26) with the stomach flu I have been experiencing bloating and tightness on the left side of my abdomen.

When I eat, I am very uncomfortable. I have not had a decent bowel movement yet and do not feel hungry.

I am also experiencing discomfort in the sternum area as well. It seems like I am blocked up. I need relief.

Any suggestions?

~Terry

Hi Terry,

It sounds like even though you are over the initial stomach flu symptoms, you've still got some of the bug in your system and that's why you are feeling bloated and constipated and experiencing some digestive pain.

For immediate relief of the pain around your sternum, you can try drinking a glass of water with a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar in it. Bragg's is a good brand and should be available locally.

Of course, I'm assuming that this pain is brand new and only related to the stomach flu you've contracted and not anything more serious. If the pain continues after you've cleared up the other issues, consider seeing a doctor to discuss it further.

Okay, I don't know what else you may have on hand in the house, but if you
happen to have some flaxseed, or linseed oil, or chia seeds, that would be another quick option to help relieve the constipation. Just add a tablespoon to some food (yogurt works great, but you can use just about anything).

Of course, drink plenty of water. More water may be sufficient to get your bowels in motion again, but if I were in your situation, I'd definitely get some Herbal Fiberblend and use it for a few weeks, minimum. It might be a good time for you to go ahead and do a full 3-month cleanse if haven't done a cleanse before.

This will help remove excess bacteria that you've picked up from the flu virus and any toxins that have been building up while you've been constipated.

It works like a charm for me, and for just about everyone who has given me their feedback.

I would also suggest you take some probiotics to restore the friendly bacteria numbers in your digestive tract. These tend to decrease in number when you've been sick, so if you boost them back up again, it will help you bounce back more quickly. I prefer Florafood.

Hope this helps with your constipation and bloating after a stomach flu and that you are back to feeling right again soon.

To your good health!
Angie
