A carbon water filter is a must have for those who want to drink healthy water without all the harmful chemicals in non filtered water.
Any carbon filter water dispenser is better than no filter at all.
It is absolutely shocking to learn the facts about the quality of water that most of us drink each day. If the water looks clean, we take for granted that it is clean. That is far from true.
The purpose of a water filter containing carbon or charcoal is to remove the contaminants that still remain in water as well as those chemicals that have been added at the local water treatment plant.
Carbon is recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as the best technology currently known for filtering Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's) and Trihalomethanes (THM's) from our water.
Even those who prefer a water distiller or a reverse osmosis system need to realize that they also need to incorporate a carbon water filter into the process or they won't get rid of many of the common 'nasties.'
I prefer the water filter systems available at Aquasana. They have dual cartridges. One cartridge removes the particles that cause unpleasant tastes and odors as well as the chlorine that is so harmful and causes cancer. That's the carbon filter.
The second cartridge has an ion exchange process that replaces harmful lead ions with healthy potassium ions. Most importantly, it also absorbs the herbicides, pesticides, and industrial solvents that are not dealt with by the chlorine and resistant organisms and cysts like Cryptosporidium and Giardia.
Although healthy drinking water is important to me, I also like to pinch my pennies. Aquasana ticks that box, too. It is pretty much the most economical way to get good quality water in your own home on tap any time you need it. Guess what the price works out to be? Less than 10 cents a gallon. You'll be hard pressed to beat that!
I want to share some important information I discovered in my own personal research on good quality, healthy water. Did you know that our skin absorbs chlorine in seconds? I didn't.
Here's an experiment for you to try. Pick up a simple pool chlorine testing kit. Pour yourself two glasses of your tap water. In the first glass test the water and make note of the chlorine level in your water.
Now, before testing the second glass, stick your hand in the water for a minute and then test it. Your skin will have absorbed the majority of the chlorine.
"Chlorine is one of the most toxic substances known.
It does everything from drying your skin and destroying your hair
to wiping out the beneficial bacteria in your colon. According to the
US Council on Environmental Quality, the cancer risk among
people drinking chlorinated water is 93% higher
than among those whose water does not contain chlorine.
There is a higher incidence of cancer of the esophagus, rectum, breast,
and larynx and a higher incidence of Hodgkin's disease
among those drinking chlorinated water."
- Jon Barron
We must have our water treated with chlorine to disinfect and purify it for drinking. Chlorine does have it's good side. It controls water borne diseases. We don't want to go back to the days of cholera, dysentery, and typhoid fever.
Just because we need chlorine to do it's job for us, doesn't mean we need to keep it in our water and let it affect our health. Whole house water filter systems are a very wise investment in the health of you and your family. Compare the prices of the different carbon water filter systems available at Aquasana and add one to your list of 'must haves' this year.
To your good health!
