Too Much Fiber

How much fiber is too much fiber?
I can go up to 5 days without using the bathroom!! I eat no meat, juice every day, and eat all the pulp that is left over.
I eat either veggie pizza, burgers, hummas, whatever I can imagine.
I drink around 90 ounces of water a day.
Can you eat too much fiber, and what will happen if you do?
Hi Lori,
The recommended amount of fiber for most adults is about 35 grams per day. As with anything, there is a bit of "wiggle room" when it comes to each individual person since we all have our own unique constitution and quirks.
It certainly isn't good that you only have a bowel movement after several days. At least once per day should be your goal.
Strangely enough, too much fiber can result in similar symptoms of too little fiber. A good balance is the best approach.
You seem to be drinking enough water, so that shouldn't be your problem. I would suggest that you try one or more of the following supplements to improve your bowel regularity...
- Salba - sprinkle in your food or add to your juice to provide essential fatty acids that improve bowel function.
- AIMega - another plant based source of essential fatty acids, but in capsule form if you prefer.
- Herbal Fiberblend - herbal dietary fiber that works wonderfully well as a natural digestive cleanse and improves bowel health.
You should be able to easily incorporate one or more of those options into your daily routine and I believe you'll notice a significant improvement.
To your good health!Blessings,
Angie
